Abstract. This paper considers the problem of optimizing traffic flows in dedicated urban corridors to reduce delays and increase the capacity of the existing road infrastructure. A transportation corridor model based on micro-simulation and queuing systems is developed. This model describes the interaction between the main artery and adjacent secondary roads. An aggregated delay function is minimized using the differential evolution method, which yields a global solution in nonlinear optimization problems. A computational experiment is carried out on real traffic flow data for Lipetsk to determine the optimal timing parameters of traffic lights. According to the experimental results, a 5.53% reduction in the total system delay is achieved, which confirms the effectiveness of this situational traffic control approach without the need for major road network reconstruction. The research results can be used to develop intelligent traffic control systems and study adaptive traffic flow regulation.

Keywords: transportation corridor, delay optimization, differential evolution, micro-simulation, traffic light control, urban mobility.
